Sonia Rubinsky exemplifies the great tradition of virtuoso pianists: a profound and serious musical commitment combined with an exciting and refined technical gift. Her repertoire encompasses all periods from the Baroque to the present day. Ms. Sonia Rubinsky holds Doctorate and Master of Musical Arts degrees from The Juilliard School of Music. She studied piano with Beveridge Webster, Vlado Perlemuter, William Daghlian and Jacob Lateiner. Native of Campinas , Brazil she subsequently moved to Israel, where she studied piano at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance with Prof. Benjamin Oren. She participated in master classes with Edward Aldwell, Leon Fleisher, Murray Perahia and Arthur Rubinstein, who immediately exclaimed upon hearing her "What a temperament!" as may be seen in the movie Arthur Rubinstein in Jerusalem. Sonia Rubinsky, a worldwide acclaimed soloist with celebrated orchestras, as well as a highly praised recitalist, performs extensively in most prestigious concert halls in North and South America and in Europe . Prize-winner of many international competitions, Ms. Rubinsky is a recipient of the prestigious William Petschek Award, the Carlos Gomes Prize as Pianist of the Year for 2006, as well as a "Best Recitalist of the Year" award of the Sao Paulo Association of Music Critics. She is also the 1984 first-prize winner of the Artists International Competition in New York. Miss Rubinsky has recorded the complete works of Villa-Lobos for piano for Naxos (a total of 8 CDs). The released volumes I–VI received rave reviews and are available worldwide. Volumes VII and VIII will be released in 2008. Together with her widely acclaimed Vol. I, chosen as "one of the best five recordings of 1999" by Bryce Morrison (Gramophone Magazine), was also nominated for a “Grammy Award” in1999. Volume V was chosen as one of the 10 best releases of 2006 by Gramophone Magazine , Editor's Choice. Miss Rubinsky has also recorded for Nonesuch/Elektra (John Adams), Daghlian Label (Debussy, Villa-Lobos and Messiaen), Albany Records (Jorge Liderman), and Clássicos (Mozart). After living for many years in New York City , Ms. Rubinsky now resides in Paris , France .
